About this lecture
Ihsan is to worship Allah as though you see Him. For most of Islamic history the obstacle to that sat outside the prayer mat. Now it is a device in the pocket, engineered deliberately and expensively to take your attention and sell it on.
Dr. Yusuf Bakri and Sheikh Bilal Adem come at the question from two directions: what the classical scholars said about khushu' and the wandering mind, and what an honest audit of an ordinary week actually shows. Practical — and not a lecture about deleting apps.

Dr. Yusuf Bakri
Lecturer in Islamic History, Western Sydney University
Dr. Yusuf teaches Islamic history at Western Sydney University, with a focus on the Makkan and Madinan periods and how each has been read since. He has written on the way the seerah has been retold for community audiences in Australia since the 1970s.

Do I need to register in advance?
Yes. Registration closes once the cohort fills, and the reminder, plus any change of time, goes to the email you register with.
Is there prayer space on site?
Yes. There is a prayer area with wudu facilities for both brothers and sisters, and we break for salah at its time.
How is the seating arranged?
Seating is segregated, with a separate section for sisters and a shared entrance off the foyer. Families are seated at the rear of the sisters' section.
Will it be recorded?
Most lectures are recorded and the link goes out to everyone who registered, usually within a week. Course sessions are recorded week by week so you can catch up if you miss one.
Is there parking?
There is free street parking around the venue and a small on-site car park that fills early. The nearest station is a short walk, and on busy nights we'd recommend it.
Is anything served?
Tea, coffee and something light are out in the foyer before we begin. Everything served is halal.
