About us
Eleven people and one teacher.
That is where Barakah Masjid started, in a rented hall off Haldon Street in 2019. What we do now is larger, but it is the same thing.
Our story
Who we are
Barakah Masjid began in a rented hall in Lakemba with eleven people and one teacher, meeting on Tuesday nights because that was the evening the hall was free.
Today the masjid holds five daily prayers, two Jumu'ah congregations, weekly halaqas for brothers and sisters, a term-based Arabic school, and a youth program that has outgrown three rooms.
The shape of the thing has not changed. Someone who knows, sitting with people who want to. Everything we run is open to the whole community, and nobody is turned away for cost.
What we do
A week at the masjid
Five daily prayers
Doors open twenty minutes before each adhan, every day of the year.
Jumu'ah
Two congregations, 12:30pm and 1:30pm, khutbah in English and Arabic.
Weekly halaqas
Tuesday evenings for brothers, Thursday evenings for sisters.
Youth program
Friday nights for high-schoolers: sport, study help and a short reminder.
