Three quiet weeks, then one Sunday night.
For three weeks the page sat there and twelve seats went, mostly friends. Then on the Sunday night of 31 May they published it and shared the link.

The first forty-eight hours
Two fifths of the room went in two days.
16 seats on the Monday, another 34 on the Tuesday. That is 49 seats from one Instagram post, taken while the founders slept.

One post, one link, a phone in someone’s hand.
243 people opened the page. 97 came from Instagram and most of the rest came directly, which is a link forwarded into a group chat. Four in five were on a phone.
What people booked on
83% were on a phone.

How long it took
A minute and a half, from opening the page to a seat.
The average booking took 87 seconds. The quickest took 25. Somebody deciding at ten at night, on a phone, either finishes now or not at all.
Booked against attended
89 people booked. 120 people came.
A booking is not a person. One sister booking for herself, her mother and a friend is one line in the list and three chairs in the room. Count bookings and you set out 89 chairs for a room that needs 120. The page counts places.
The 31 extra marks on the lower row came in on somebody else’s booking. Average party size 1.35.
When they booked
Committees work at night, and so do the sisters.
64 of the 120 seats were booked after five in the evening, and the busiest hour was ten at night. Nobody is at a desk then. The page was.
Who came
Twenty-two of them did not come alone.

Doors opened at 1:00pm. The last seat went at 12:50pm, ten minutes before anybody walked in. Stewards scanned from their own phones, 24 scans in half an hour.
